Plan Azur; Bringing Morocco to the world.
The Plan Azur was launced by the King of Morocco in 2002 as part of an initial programme (Plan 2010) to increase tourim in the country from 2m visits per year to 10m visits per year by 2010. Whilst Plan 2010 had many facets, including infrastructure regeneraton and legal reform, a key plank of the plan was the Azur Plan, a programme to build 6 major beachfront resorts. The first if these is Saidia, and the sucess of this project is key to the sucess of the whole plan. For this reason, while the project construction was awarded to a Spanish construction company, Fadesa, the Government have been behind the project, and have ensured that the problems in the Spanish property market have had minimal long term impact on the Saidia project.
